New Caledonia has the largest population of dugongs after Australia and the Persian Gulf.

Yet it is a small population spread in a vast lagoon.

Two years ago New Caledonia implemented an action plan to protect the species and a pilot study was undertaken to better understand the movements of the dugongs in the lagoon.

Marine biologist Christophe Cleguer is heading the projects and spoke to Isabelle Genoux.

Presenter: Isabelle Genoux
