New monitoring equipment at Manam volcano

New monitoring equipment at Manam volcano

The Rabaul Volcanological Observatory in Papua New Guinea has sent a team with new equipment to Madam island to improve the monitoring of Manam volcano.

The scientists say activity has increased recently causing heavy ash fall and some lava flow.

They say people should not panic, but be prepared to move when advised.

The observatory's Chief scientist, Ima Itikarai explained the current situation to Peter Jonah.
