New national park in West Australia

Updated 8 February 2013, 11:14 AEST

In Western Australia 1500 kilometers north of Perth , local Aboriginal groups are celebrating a long fought battle.

A section of the Burrup Peninsula, home of the Northwest gas Shelf is now a National Park and it's finally been recognised by its traditional name, Murujuga National Park. It has taken ten years of negotiations between Aboriginal groups, industry and the government but the creation of the National Park is a recognition of local aboriginals heritage and connection to the land.

Presenter: Sian Gard

Brad Rowe, Development Co-ordinator for the Murujuga Ranger Program
