NGOs repeat call for sea bed mining moratorium

Updated 30 August 2012, 9:30 AEST

A regional framework on sea-bed mining has been released on the side lines of the Pacific Island Forum in Cook Islands, and that's prompted a new call for a moratorium on the yet unproven mining system.

Civil society groups, the Pacific Conference of Churches, the Pacific Network on Globalisation (PANG) and ACT NOW from Papua New Guinea say not enough is known about sea-bed mining and all sea-bed mining projects, such as the Nautilus project in papua New guinea should be put on hold indefinitely.
