The government of Niue is expecting to make big savings on energy costs now that solar-generated electricity is available across the entire island.

A solar photovoltaic system has been developed and implemented by the government at a cost of $US4 million, with funding from PEC, the Government of Japan's Pacific Environment Community.

PEC is administered by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat in Suva, and Jonathan Mitchell is the Niue project manager.
