Optimistic Australian cane growers increase plantings

This year's Australian sugar harvest may be down on initial estimates, but growers are still planting more cane than they have for years.

The Canegrowers organisation estimates the industry's value has increased by $100 million because there's an additional 20,000 hectares of cane in the ground.

Charlie McKillop has been talking to Chief Executive Steve Greenwood who says he doesn't understand why Australian investment companies and superannuation funds don't share Asia's insatiable appetite for sugar.
