A major test of the Pacific's tsunami warning system is underway across the region.

The Pacific Wave Exercise which involves 39 Pacific Rim countries and territories started on May the First and ends in a week's time.

The gaol is to assess reaction times test new tsunami wave forecasting tools developed by America's Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre in Hawai'i.

The exercise is based on a simulated earthquake and tsunami and each country uses its emergency plans to respond to the test.

Isabelle Genoux asked the Deputy-director of the Warning Centre, Doctor Stuart Weinstein, about the equipment.
