Papua New Guinea's Minister for the South Pacific Games says Pacific athletes should not be concerned about whether facilities will be ready by 2015.

4,500 athletes from around the region will be hosted at a new Games village being built on the University of the Papua New Guinea Campus in Port Moresby and there will be many new sporting venues.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the village was yesterday, despite last minute threats of industrial action.

The workers were still on site when Jemima Garrett spoke with Games Minister Justin Tkatchenko.
