PNG police make arrests over the assault of an American woman

Papua New Guinea police have arrested four men in connectioin with the sexual assault of an American woman in PNG's Madang province.

Madang's Provincial Police Commander, Inspector Sylvester Kalaut says they are being detained on Karkar Island and could be charged after formal interrogation.

He says they are alleged to be members of a larger group that attacked the American woman scientist, her male colleague and a local guide on the Island last Friday.
