Papua New Guinea's Foreign Minister, Rimbink Pato has addressed criticism from the UN about the Manus Island processing centre for asylum seekers.

He says his government is not going to act in any matter which is inconsistent with its obligations under the relevant UN conventions.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees says it has serious reservations about PNG's ability to properly assess refugee claims.

Mr Pato says PNG and Australia have an agreement over Manus and his government will make sure this is completed.

PNG correspondent, Liam Fox asked him if his government will process the asylum seekers on Manus Island and determine if they are refugees.
