PNG's Western Province set for gas boom

PNG's Western Province set for gas boom

Papua New Guinea's poorest province - Western Province - is the epicentre of new natural gas developments.

The huge ExxonMobil-led PNG LNG project, which is due to start exporting in 2014, has a small footprint in there, as does the the Canadian company Inter-Oil.

Talisman and Horizon Energy's Stanley Gas Project is has its home base in Western Province.

The Province's newly-elected Governor, economist Ati Wobiro, has been attending the PNG Mining and Petroleum Investment Conference, in Sydney.

Mr Wobiro told Jemima Garrett gas is going to have a very significant impact on the lives of his people.
