Police on Nauru consider laying charges against some asylum seekers

Updated 2 October 2012, 17:46 AEST

Nauruan Police are still deciding wether or not to charge a group of up to 15 asylum seekers who started a riot on the island on Sunday.

Police say one asylum seeker suffered a minor injured to his stomach but that it was self inflicted.

Three asylum seekers were taken to the police station and held there overnight.

The were released on Monday morning.

The Australian and Nauruan Governments say the incident was only minor... but that it is not surprising considering the situation of the men on the island.

Canberra Correspondent Stephanie March reports.
