Radio is a powerful communication tool, especially in nations where many people don't have access to, or can't afford, other media.

Broadcasters like Papua New Guinea's National Broadcasting Corporation, broadcasts important information about health, education and social issues.

For the past 18 months, Amelia Shaw has been working for ABC International's development program supporting PNG's national broadcaster get basic information to the people.

She's spoke earlier today with Cathy Harper.
