The Samoa Cancer Society has embarked on a year-long programme aimed at persuading the Samoan people that cancer is a topic to be talked about, not avoided.

The society's new executive officer La-Toya Lee says if people aren't prepared to discuss what is still a very sensitive subject in the Pacific, then fewer deaths will be prevented.

Ms Lee says while there are plenty of myths associated with cancer, there has to be a conversation before any of them can be debunked.

Presenter: Richard Ewart

Speaker: La-Toya Lee, Executive Officer, Samoa Cancer Society
