Reprieve for Tongan overstayers in New Zealand

New Zealand immigration say they will not immediately deport Tongan overstayers if they help with information on an immigration scam.

The department is offering sanction-free days if the victims of the immigration scam come forward.

There are several cases of people promising Tongan overstayers visas to stay in New Zealand in exchange for cash.

Labour's Pacific Island Affairs Spokesperson, Su'a William Sio says without full amensty for the Tongan victim, immigration will find it difficult to get information from them.
