Scientists investigate fish growth rates

Regional cooperation in the Pacific is helping to determine how old fish are.

The Secretariat of the Pacific Community and the French Institute of Research for Development in New Caledonia, are helping train a fisheries officers from various Pacific island nations to recognise the ageing signs of fish.

The research aims to detect possible changes in coastal fisheries productivity and will establish for the first time baseline reference data on the growth of reef fish species in the Pacific.
