Severe health threats from climate change - IPCC

Updated 1 April 2014, 11:09 AEDT

One of Australia's leading epidemiologists and public health researchers has painted a bleak picture of human health threatened by climate change.

Professor Tony McMichael says the health impacts of global warming have been ignored for too long ... and the penny is only just starting to drop that the human species is "at risk in a very fundamental way"

For almost 20 years, Tony McMichael has helped write the assessment reports for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change ... including the report released yesterday on climate impacts and adaptation.

Presenter: Gregg Borschmann

Speaker: Tony McMichael, Emeritus Professor at the Australian National University and one of the authors of the IPCC
