Smartphone apps may cut the need to see a doctor

Technology, in the form of smartphone apps, are set to become the new dispenser of health.

Health and wellness applications on smartphones, which are already in use in the US, are dramatically changing the way we manage our personal health.

Currently the apps cover areas such as self motivation, to texting reminders for immunisation schedule.

But its expected to become more sophisticated ... with patients accessing online diagnostics.

Australian futurist Morris Miselowski believes doctors are soon set to prescribe iPhone apps, instead of pills.
