Solomon Islands banana festival to boost tourism on Makira

The Premier of Makira Ulawa Province in Solomon Islands is optimistic an upcoming banana festival will help stimulate tourism in the area.

In June this year, Makira Island will hold its first-ever festival dedicated to the banana.

Different varieties of the fruit will be celebrated, there'll be a pageant to decide who is the banana queen and even a 65 kilometre road relay on the roads of Makira.
