Solomon Islands holds memorial service for those lost in tsunami

Updated 20 February 2013, 18:20 AEDT

The people of Solomon Islands have stopped today to remember those lost in a magnitude eight earthquake and tsunami a fortnight ago.

The disaster happened in the remote Temotu Province, in particular the Santa Cruz Islands' group, with eleven lives lost and many homes destroyed.

This morning a memorial was held in St Barnabas Cathedral in the capital Honiara, and broadcast nationwide, which involved all MP, dignitaries, church leaders, community groups and school children.

Our reporter in Honiara Koroi Hawkins was at the service and spoke about it with Pacific Correspondent Campbell Cooney.

Presenter: Campbell Cooney

Speaker: Korooi Hawkins in Honiara
