Solomon Islands schools still on holiday

Updated 2 April 2013, 18:29 AEST

A move by the Solomon Islands Education Ministry to get students back to school during a teachers strike has misfired.

It ordered the schools to start classes from today and warned the teachers that if they failed to attend classes they would face disciplinary action.

However, the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education, and Human Resources Development, says the schools are still on Holiday.

Fred Rohorua explained the situation to Steve Rice.
