The Solomon Islands Teachers Association has called off plans to shut down schools over a funding dispute with the government.

The majority of government funded schools had planned to shut down this week, because they haven't received their annual grants.

Mark Doman has been speaking to the association's General Secretary, Johnley Hatimoana, who has talks with Prime Minister Gordon Darcy Lilo.

Mr Hatimoana says the government have given an assurance that the distribution of funds to the schools has begun.
