Solomons government commits to promoting gender equality

The Solomon Islands government says it stands ready to promote gender equality in the country, particularly in public service and education, and it is committed to eliminating violence against women.

The Asian Development Bank, in partnership with the Solomon Islands government and the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, has just completed a first ever gender assessment in the islands.

But ADB principal social development specialist Sunwha Lee says even if the government honours its pledge, real equality will take years to achieve.
