Solomon Islands Prime Minister, Gordon Darcy Lilo, says there needs to be a new, more sustainable approach to management of his country's mining, fisheries, and forestry sectors.

To get discussion started Mr Lilo is holding a three-day high-level Roundtable on Development, Society and Environment, in Honiara.

Poul Engberg-Pedersen, Deputy Director General of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, is one of the international speakers at the Roundtable.

He told Jemima Garrett one way of achieving better environmental and social outcomes is for the government and affected communities to enter a partnership with mining companies before they start mining.
