The president of Vanuatu's national Volleyball team has blamed a lack of international competition and funding problems for the team's poor performance at the Fuzhou Open beach volleyball tournament in China.

Miller Elwin and Henriette Latika missed out on a place in the main draw after going down in three sets to Austria's Barbara Hansel and Katharina Schutzenhofer.

It was a big blow for the team, and its quest to qualify for the Beach Volleyball World Championships in Poland in July.
