Updated 30 January 2013, 9:58 AEDT

Energy and water rates on Guam are poised to go up by nearly eight and nine per cent from Friday.

Last night the Public Utilities Commission met to decide whether to approve the rate hikes, which will affect residential customers, businesses and government offices. Utility prices already tend to be higher in most Pacific countries and territories compared to the US mainland and other industrialised countries.
