Sydney conferences aim for a better deal from mining for developing nations

Sydney is playing host this week to two international conferences aimed at bringing more transparency and accountability into the resource industry, particularly in developing countries where local communities have often missed out on receiving a fair share of the economic returns from resource extraction.

The International Mining for Development Conference which gets underway today, came about as a result of an aid initiaitive lauched by Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard in October 2011.
