Tonga police commissioner promises to clean up corrupt activities

Updated 16 October 2013, 12:14 AEDT

Tonga's police commissioner is working to oversome a long history of corruption prevalent in the Kingdom's police force.

In his first 15 months in office Commissioner Grant O'Fee has suspended, dismisseed or criminally charged more than 30 officers including very senior officers. Commissioner O'Fee is now working to win back the public's confidence in the force by stamping out a previously accepted culture of bribery and brutality. Mr O'Fee says the recent high profile case of New Zealander Kali Fungavaka's death in custody is just one of many cases before the courts.
