Tonga's newly-formed volcanic island a fresh tourist attraction

A risky journey by a Tongan businessman has led to him capturing the first close-up photographs of his country's newest island.

Some 65 kilometres south-west of Tongatapu, the new island emerged from the sea after a volcanic erruption in January.

Hotel owner GP Orbassano, who once worked as a professional photographer, has been to the island where he climbed to the highest point, and he says it has the potential to be Tonga's next big tourist attraction.
