Tonga's Solar plant officially opened

Updated 24 July 2012, 17:29 AEST

Tonga is celebrating the completion of it's first solar power plant.

It's hoped it will reduce the costs of running the country's diesel generators.

New Zealand has been a significant contributor to the development of the solar power project and its Foreign Minister Murray McCully is there for the opening.

Travelling with him is our New Zealand correspondent Dominque Schwartz described the plant to Bruce Hill.
