Traditional longboat races scuttled at Samoan Independence program

The Samoa Tourism Authority has dumped the iconic Fautasi or Samoan Longboat Race from their progam this year.

The Fautasi Race has always been a key event at the annual independence celebrations and while the STA confirmed the race's cancellation, it has failed to tell competitors about the move.

Sophie Budvietas, Chief Reporter from the Samoa Observer, says the STA believes the race is over used and may start lose its value.
