Traditional methods helping preserve Fiji reefs

Coastal communities in Pacific Island nations depend on coral reefs for their livelihoods and in Fiji, the Government is aiming to protect 30% of their coral reef and other marine areas by 2020.

Local communities involved the Fiji Locally Managed Marine Area network have taken a leading role in marine conservation in Fiji, but some say that the management has been ad hoc and opportunist.
