Training boost for Vanuatu teachers

Updated 23 January 2013, 9:04 AEDT

In schools across the Pacific, you'll find people working as teachers without formal qualifications.

There's no questioning the commitment or experience of untrained teachers, but a new program underway in Vanuatu is helping to fill in some of those qualification gaps.

It's a two-week course for 34 primary and mission school teachers from across the country, which has the joint support of Vanuatu's Education Ministry and the Australian aid agency AusAID, and it's been organised by the Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu's Education Authority.

Presenter: Geraldine Coutts

Speaker: Johnathan Tarib, education secretary, Presbyterian Church of Vanuatu Education Authority
