The Director-General of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, Colin Tukuitonga has been appointed to the recently convened World Health Organization Commission on Ending Childhood Obesity.

Dr Tukuitonga says the Commission is an important global development that will provide guidance to countries on effective measures to prevent childhood obesity.

It's at epidemic proportions in the Pacific with almost one in four boys and one in five girls aged between 13 and 15 considered to be obese.

Dr Tukuitonga says the commission's recommendations will have worldwide effects.
