UN drive to reduce rising number of unwanted pregnancies

Having children by choice, not by chance, is the slogan adopted by UNFPA, the United Nations Population Fund.

The issue of family planning and human rights is more and more under the spotlight, as the world population rises beyond seven billion.

A UNFPA report claims that during 2012, more than 80 million unintended pregnancies will occur.

Dirk Jena is the UNFPA's Pacific Sub-Regional Office Director.
