Updated 20 August 2013, 11:25 AEST

Greenpeace is calling for a sharp reduction in tuna fishing across the Pacific.

The recent meeting of the Scientific Committee of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission found that current management methods are failing to guarantee fish stocks.

Greenpeace says if Pacific nations are to have fish and livelihoods in the future there is an urgent need for cutting back fish catches and converting to more sustainable fishing techniques.
