Updated 12 February 2015, 17:42 AEDT

One of the Pacific's most significant journalistic figures and the publisher of the Vanuatu Daily Post, Marc Neil-Jones, is moving into semi-retirement.

Mr Neil-Jones is stepping back from his day to day involvement in the paper to focus on developing a resort north of Port Vila.

He founded the newspaper as the Trading Post in 1993 and since then he has been assaulted, deported multiple times and jailed over items he's published which have angered the government of the day.

Mr Neil-Jones says it's time he started taking things a little easier.

Presenter: Bruce Hill

Speaker: Marc Neil Jones, publisher of the Vanuatu Daily Post
