Vanuatu journalist charged over 'crash' comment on Facebook

Vanuatu police have arrested a journalist for publishing a seditious statement about the government on the internet.

Gratien Tiona was arrested after a comment on a Facebook forum that he was praying for the crash of the aircraft transporting the Council of Ministers back to Port Vila following its meeting in Torba.

Tiona was employed by the Vanuatu Independent Newspaper.
