The battle to eradicate the polio has been given a boost by a new campaign spearheaded by the United Nations children's fund, UNICEF and the Global Poverty Project.

The disease is on the verge of eradication with just 200 cases reported globally, that compares to 350-thousand cases back in 1988.

But the fear is that if global health bodies lose the momentum in ridding the world of polio more children could suffer the disease.
