Violence against women a PNG crisis

The humanitarian medical organisation Medecins Sans Frontieres says the level of violence faced by women in Papua New Guinea represents a "humanitarian crisis".

MSF provides treatment to hundreds of victims of domestic and sexual violence at two support centres.

This week the organisation's president Dr Unni Karunakara is visiting PNG to try and convince the government to devote more of its own resources to the problem.
