A Brisbane woman, Carol Armstrong has set up her own aid organisation to try to cut the death rate of babies less than a year old in Kiribati.

One in 20 newborns don't reach their first birthday because of illnesses related to unclean drinking water.

The Island Rescue Project aims to provide solar powered water desalination equipment to communities in Tarawa and other water purifying kits.
