The question of global food security is up for debate in Canberra at the Crawford Fund's annual conference, where delegates are focussed on how to feed a world population that's approaching the nine billion mark.

The Crawford Fund, which is a non-government organisation, has the mission statement For A Food Secure World.

Among the key-note speakers it's brought over for the Canberra event is the former executive director of the UN World Food Programme, Professor Catherine Bertini.

She says any push towards greater food security has to include investment in women.

Presenter: Richard Ewart
