Food supplies are dwindling for more than 5000 villagers in Central Bougainville as a result of continuous heavy rain.

The flood clean-up has begun in Gympie in south-east Qld after the Mary River peaked overnight, inundating more than 30 businesses.

Gympie has been hit by more flooding after heavy rain drenched south-east Queensland. Gympie's central business district has flooded again for the fourth time in a year, with the Mary River expected to peak at up to 19 metres tonight. Shops started going under at 15m, and the river level has already passed 17m. Gympie Deputy Mayor Tony Perrett says it is time to start considering a plan to reduce the impact of flooding on the city. South of Gympie, the Bruce Highway is expected to remain closed until Wednesday afternoon.
