Cambodia is asking Japan to support its United Nations peacekeeping mission in southern Sudan.
Since April 2006, some 300 Cambodian peacekeepers have been involved in de-mining work in Malakal in southern Sudan.
In cooperation with troops from India and Bangladesh, the Cambodians have removed around 1,600 mines.
Cambodia's defence minister, Tea Banh, says although Cambodian troops have not been attacked directly they are working in a tense environment.
Recent fighting between rebel groups saw the suspension of de-mining activities for 15 days.
