Australian bosses should rethink internet ban: researcher
Updated
A digital communication researcher in Australia says bosses may have to rethink bans on employees using social networking sites like MySpace and Facebook.
Several companies have blocked access to the internet sites.
But research released by the law firm, Deacon, found about half those surveyed would refuse a job if they weren't allowed to use the sites.
The director of the Centre for Digital Future, Dr Jeffrey Cole, has told the National Press Club, Generation Y sees the sites as an important communication tool.
"I think the belief that Facebook is not just a frittering away of time, but actually is a way to communicate with your network, your work network as well, I think is an accommodation that most managers are going to have to probably make over the coming years, but I don't see it imminently," he said.
