Sportswear ad withdrawn in NZ following complaints
Updated
An Australian sportswear company has been forced to withdraw an advertisement in New Zealand, after claims of racism.
The New Zealands Advertising Standards Authority says it received 73 complaints about the television commercial which was made by Australian company, Skins.
The commercial features several black athletes, who imply that it is better to be a black male because they are better built and more muscular and stronger.
The Advertising Standards Authority agreed with a number of complainants who say the ad is racially insensitive and reinforces the belief that different human traits are linked to race.
The Skins company says it believes the advertisment celebrates the amazing accomplishments of black athletes throughout the world and may appeal the decision.
