Australian wins on Olympic track
Updated
Australia has taken the honours in the first ever race at the new Olympic stadium in Beijing.
Our China correspondent, Stephen McDonell, reports Australia's Jared Tallent stepped into the history books when he became the first person to win a race at the Olympic stadium dubbed the 'Bird's Nest'.
The 23-year-old Talent said he thought the others might catch him but he entered the arena with thousands cheering and made it across the line first.
"It's an awesome feeling to be the first one in there and get a win in the new Olympic stadium - it's such an amazing stadium and it looks fantastic," he said.
"But hopefully I can do it again in August at the Olympics when it counts - that's the main aim."
On Sunday the stadium will host another test event with the finish of the marathon.
