Nauruans prepare for fresh elections

Nauru will hold elections this week after its president declared a state of emergency and dissolved parliament on Friday.

President Marcus Stephen says the deadlock between the government and opposition must come to an end.

He says recent actions of Parliamentary Speaker David Adeang and his supporters have brought important foreign investment projects to a halt, and disrupted budget bills from passing through parliament.

Last month Mr Adeang sought to bar two cabinet members who hold dual Australian and Nauruan citizenship, but the decision was overturned by the Supreme Court.
