Antarctica to host NZ wind turbines

A New Zealand energy company plans to transport three wind turbines to Antarctica.
Meridian Energy is sending the turbines to help provide power for its research bases.
Company spokeswoman, Claire Shaw, told the ABC the turbines will help reduce the use of diesel fuel.
But she says setting them up will be a challenge.
"There's a lot of major challenges and often it's the logistics and the environment that get us," she said.
"We're quite happy with the technology, [but] obviously it's an isolated continent so we're going to have some real expert project managers there."
Australia established wind turbines at its Mawson base in 2005.
