Nauru's former president loses seat in elections
Updated
Nauru's controversial former President, Rene Harris, has lost his seat in the country's national elections.
Mr Harris who has been in the opposition for a few years, almost got back into government a month ago through a vote of no confidence.
But president Marcus Steven declared a state of emergency and called for snap elections just over a week ago.
All results are not in yet but president Steven has won his seat.
Mr Harris was president when he invited the Australian government to use Nauru as a processing centre for asylum seekers.
He was also president when Nauru went bankrupt.
